The site of the house Jack Parsons made famous both in life and death.

We depend on ad revenue to craft and curate stories about the world’s hidden wonders. Consider supporting our work by becoming a member for as little as $5 a month. Jack was mortally injured, and The Parsonage was destroyed, just as Hubbard had supposedly foretold. To compound the tragedy, his mother was so distraught at the loss of her son that she took her own life hours later.

Babcock's Grove House is a casual dining spot located in the heart of historic downtown Lombard. We specialize in fresh, simply prepared Midwestern comfort foods. Our intimate setting with vintage, conversation level music and a purposeful lack of televisions accommodates about fifty people inside and, on nice days, another thirty out.

Yes, Babcock's Grove House has a kids menu, view their kids menu on Sirved. Over the course of 150 years much has changed in the building, but many original items remain or can be seen on display at the Lombard Historical Society, located within walking distance of our restaurant. Our location was constructed in 1858, prior to the Civil War. It was built as a hotel and named Babcock's Grove House (Lombard and Glen Ellyn were both known as Babcock's Grove at the time). It's rumored that the hotel was built to accommodate the Republican National Convention of 1860.

Fast service,

A fire in 1973 left nothing but the shell of the building, it was remodeled into the Improv, which is there today. Subtle nods to both can be seen in our decor, menu and logo. We are crazy for lilacs and want to share our pride with everyone.

Customers are free to download these images, but not use these digital files (watermarked by the Sirved logo) for any commercial purpose, without prior written permission of Sirved. Our building is constructed of hand hewn limestone more than one foot thick. The basement was home to a dram shop and the original entrance remains today but is hidden from sight by the monument stairs that were poured above it. Spanning California, from Montecito to Marina del Rey, Caruso properties offer our guests unparalleled shopping, dining, entertainment and living experiences. The Grove’s fountain was built by WET Design, the same company who built the fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Delicious food and great service in a beautiful historic building. It was a bitterly cold night here in the midwest and the dining room was more comfortable with my scarf on, but the food warmed us up. We will surely go back, as a couple or with a small group. Babcock’s specializes in quality, not quantity resulting in a menu with just the right amount of options and plate sizes that will leave you satisfied but not bloated.

Condos now stand on the spot where Jack Parsons confronted death, the greatest mystery of them all, on a warm summer night in Pasadena.
